The largest Credit reference agency in the UK is Experian – They collate information about your financial background and past payment behaviour and format this data into your credit report which will be unique to you.

Lenders will use this information when they decide whether or not to offer you a mobile phone, loan, mortgage or credit card. It is in their assessment of the likelihood or ability to repay them.

Information comes from two main sources; Public records, such as County Court Judgment’s, individual voluntary arrangements or IVA’s and Bankruptcies. Your credit report also shows whether you are on the voter’s role – lenders use this as a precaution against fraud, to check that you are who you say you are and live where you claim to live.

Information from lenders and financial institutions, such as records of the number of loans or other financial agreement’s you have and whether or not you have ever been late with a repayment or missed one completely.

It is of the utmost importance all information held about you is as upto date as possible and reflects correctly your current circumstances. Then lenders are able to make the best-informed decisions – and you will then get the right deal.
